Authorities in the province of Matanzas, in the west of Cuba, reported on December 28 the death of three people and two seriously injured following a traffic accident involving a rental car for tourism, in the town of Cayo Ramona, in the municipality of Ciénaga de Zapata.

According to the updates on social networks by the official newspaper Girón, the accident occurred when a tourist car traveling at excessive speed crashed into a tree near the Cayo Ramona cemetery, causing the immediate death of 2 of its occupants. A third died during transfer to the hospital.

The information states that the injured, a man and a pregnant woman, received first aid at the municipal hospital of Jagüey Grande and were transferred to hospital institutions in Matanzas due to the severity of the injuries caused by the collision.

“Of the deceased, 2 were residents of Ciénaga de Zapata and a third came from the city of Cárdenas. Currently, the authorities are evaluating the causes of the tragic event,” they concluded.

In relation to this case, last weekend another fatal traffic accident occurred in the Matanzas province which, to date, has left a toll of six people dead and about twenty injured.

This December 28, health authorities in Matanzas updated the data regarding the accident that occurred last Saturday at kilometer 101 of the Central Highway, near Limonar.

According to the updated report by the official newspaper Girón, on its Facebook profile, the death toll increased to six following the traffic accident.

Authorities pointed out that yesterday one of the injured who was hospitalized passed away, a 56-year-old man who had been reported as “critically unstable.”

Gretter Robaina Rodríguez, deputy director of Medical Assistance, explained that in the Provincial Hospital “Faustino Pérez,” six of the 14 cases received by the health institution remain hospitalized with multiple traumas.

A 10-year-old minor remains reported as serious and is receiving specialized care at the pediatric hospital of Matanzas “Eliseo Noel Caamaño.” The boy suffered a severe head injury when involved in the multiple collision on the Central Highway, according to the authorities.
