Brutal murder of young Cuban reported for stealing his cellphone in Guantánamo
He was found after the assault by a person who took him to the hospital, but unfortunately he arrived dead.
On social media, a new case of extreme violence involving theft has been reported in Cuba, which had a fatal outcome: a young man was murdered this weekend in Guantánamo to steal his cellphone.
The deceased youth has been identified as Ronaldo López Vera, and he was assaulted on the streets of Luz Caballero and Paseo, in the main municipality of the eastern Cuban province. Various Facebook posts indicate that he was attacked with stab wounds by several individuals at dawn. A person reportedly found him abandoned after the crime and took him to the hospital, but unfortunately, he was already dead upon arrival. Numerous users have expressed their condolences on social media for the loss of another young Cuban due to the growing violence in the country. One of the most heartfelt messages was posted by the Facebook profile of the School for Physical Education Teachers (EPEF) of Guantánamo, where Ronaldo had graduated just in 2022.
“Today the EPEF Guantanamera wakes up to the sad news of the irreplaceable loss of one of its graduates Ronaldo López Vera, who graduated from the School Year: 2021-2022 (CRD) Oh, my child how much pain we all feel, the students and workers who saw you grow and become an excellent professional, you were cheerful, super intelligent, respectful and most beautifully, you were well-rounded,” reads part of the text.
In the messages, there is also a demand for justice and a call for the government to stop hiding the crisis that is being experienced in the country in terms of citizen security. However, the authorities do not usually comment on cases of this type and continue to sell an image of Cuba to the world that is far from reality.
With greater Internet access on the Island, violent cases of thefts and murders in the Caribbean territory have become known over the past few years. Amid the severe crisis affecting all sectors in the country, crime is spreading. Thefts, murders, and missing persons who are later found dead are some of the main manifestations of this crisis.
This same weekend, while the world was celebrating and coming together with family, in addition to the death of the young Cuban in Guantánamo, it was learned that an elderly Cuban man who had been reported missing in Havana, named Fernando Delgado, was found dead. In this case, no further details about the cause of death have been provided yet.
